Alumnus Square off in AHL Finals

Blacker and Angelidis square off in Calder Cup Finals

Not only will the Stanley Cup Finals have a unique Owen Sound flavour to them, the Calder Cup Finals will as well.

Mike Angelidis’ Norfolk Admirals navigated their way through the playoffs with victories over Manchester, Connecticut and St. John’s before cementing their date in the Calder Cup Finals. The Marlies secured in-ice victories over Rochester, Abbotsford and Oklahoma City as while as moral victories, playing to a full Ricoh Coliseum in Maple Leaf mad Toronto.

The Marlies finished the season 2nd in the Western Conference with a 44-24-5-3, defeating the #1 seed Oklahoma City Baron’s to punch their ticket. The Admirals were arguably the hottest team in all of hockey heading into the playoffs, reeling of 28 straight victories and finishing atop the Eastern Conference with an impressive 55-18-1-2 record.

Former Attack 50 goal scorer Mike Angelidis is having a season to remember. Playing in his first NHL game and scoring his first NHL goal with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Unionville native is also looking for his first Calder Cup.

Former Attack star Jesse Blacker put together a solid rookie season appearing in 58 games, tallying a goal and 15 assists for the Marlie’s. The 2nd Round selection of the Leafs is also no stranger to league finals. Winning an OHL Championship (and Memorial Cup) with Windsor in 2009, Blacker won another OHL Championship with the Attack in 2011 and now has an opportunity to add to his jewellery box with a Calder Cup ring.

Blacker has only appeared in 6 playoff games for the Marlie’s due to injury and will be a game time decision for the start of the series. Angelidis has notched a goal and three assists in 14 games.
