Attack Harpoon Whalers !

The Attack defeated the Plymouth Whalers 5-1 on Friday evening.

Our Attack visited Plymouth , Michigan Friday night.  The first of three road games in 2.5 days this weekend.

The Whalers entered the game sitting in 2nd position in the Ontario Hockey League Western Conference -  just 6 points behind the London Knights -  with a 37-15-2-1 record.  The Attack were in 5th position – one point behind Sarnia – with a record of 26-21-3-4.  The two hockey clubs play four games this regular season.  The first two games were in Owen Sound.  Our Attack won both.  6-2 and 5-4.

This was the first time in what has seemed forever, that Attack Head Coach Greg Ireland was able to dress 18 skaters.  Current CHL Goaltender of the Week, Jordan Binnington got the start in net.  Scott Wedgewood for the Whalers.

Welcome back from injury Attack overage defender and one time Whaler Jay Gilbert.  Jay was fed a nice pass by Daniel Zweep for his 7th goal of the season at 16:34.  Chris Bigras also assisted.  1-0 Attack after one with the Attack outshooting the Whalers 11-8.

Our Attack made it a 2-0 game when defenceman Keevin Cutting was squeezed off a play, yet made sure the puck carried on to Gemel Smith.  Gemel found Artur Gavrus and Artur finished with his 13th of the season at 4:56.

Daniel Catenacci fired his 28th of the season when he collected a rebounding puck at 18:41.  CHL Player of the Week Cameron Brace and Keevin Cutting assisted.  Keevin’s shot didn’t get through, but his Attack teammates pounced on the rebounding puck.   3-0 Attack after two.  Our Attack outshot the Whalers 15-13.

With the teams playing 4-on-4,  Artur Gavrus poked the puck up and away and on to Cameron Brace who scored from a sharp angle for his 23rd of the season at 6:28 of the third.

The Plymouth 4th line was able to stop Jordan Binnington’s two game shutout bid when Michael Whaley scored  his 2nd goal of the season at 13:45.

Attack Captain Michael Halmo put the game away deflecting a Chris Bigras point shot for his 36th at 14:19.

Artur Gavrus was hit from behind late in the game with no penalty called.  Just off of injury, let's hope Artur's development is not further slowed.

Final score Owen Sound 5 – Plymouth 1.  Our Attack outshot the Whalers 39-34.  Five straight wins for our Attack and points in their last 6 games.  Five straight wins for Jordan Binnington and his 51st career win.

The 3 Stars of the Game were all Owen Sound:
1st Star –  Cameron Brace
2nd Star – Artur Gavrus
3rd Star – Jordan Binnington
