Attack Start New Year Visiting Oshawa !

Generals 4 - Attack 3.

Our Owen Sound Attack travelled to Oshawa New Year’s Day.  The afternoon match is the only regular season time the Attack will be guests of the Generals.  Oshawa was in Owen Sound October 29th.  Our Attack scored four power play goals that night on their way to a 6-2 victory.
Daniel Altshuller got the start in the Oshawa goal.  Scott Stajcer looked after the Attack net.

Period one featured 3 power play goals.  Our Attack scored first.  Geoffrey Schemitsch did a good job keeping the puck in at the Oshawa blueline before feeding defence mate Jay Gilbert.  Jay wired a slapper at the General net that Captain Mike Halmo deflected high for his 22nd goal of the season.  Time of the PP goal was 12:33.

The Attack got into trouble less than a minute later.  Minor penalties at 13:07 and 13:22 had them down two skaters when Lucas Lessio tied the affair.  Lucas tapped in a cross net pass by Andy Andreoff at 13:50.  Lessio’s 6th PP goal of the season.

Oshawa took the lead with just 21 seconds left in the period.  Scott Laughton possessed the puck after a scrum along the boards and with our Attack worried about Laughton, forgot about Andreoff.  Laughton found him and it was 2-1 at 19:39 for the 3rd PP goal of the game.  The Attack have been leading the league in penalty minutes.  They held the play in the first till penalties took their momentum away.  The Attack Coaching staff surely addressed this in the first intermission.

Rookie Joseph Blandisi tied the game at 13:24 of period two.  A General defender “blew a tire” at the Attack blueline allowing the always dangerous Gemel Smith to snap up the loose puck.  Joe, reading the play, was off down the ice in anticipation of a pass from Gemel.  Gemel fed Joe perfectly for the breakaway goal. going high glove side.  His 12thgoal of the season.  Geoffrey Schemitsch assisted.  2-2 after two periods of play.

Oshawa took the lead once again at 3:45 of the third.  A pass in the Attack end that probably should have been a dump up the boards, was intercepted by Josh Graves.  Josh fired his 7th of the season unassisted.  Scotty Stajcer got a piece of it, but not enough.

Christian Thomas made it a 4-2 game at 6:56 with his 16th of the season after our Attack once again had difficulty clearing their zone.

Daniel Catenacci gives his all every shift of every game.  To this point, he was not on the game sheet.  Daniel raced down the left wall before crossing to the center of the Oshawa endzone and firing a backhand.  Hi shot was stopped, but Mike Halmo was there to pop the rebound.  Mike’s 2nd of the game and 23rd of the season at 8:28.

Our Attack could not get the equalizer.  The four season winning streak for our Attack in Oshawa is stopped.

Final score Oshawa  4 – Owen Sound 3.  Final shots on net were 42-33 Attack.  Our Attack were 1 for 6 on the PP.  The Generals, 2 for 6.  Shots on net were 42-33 Owen Sound.

The 3 Stars of the Game were:
1st Star – Christian Thomas with the game winner.
2nd Star – Mike Halmo with his 2 goals.
3rd Star – Daniel Altshuller

The Attack Pak made the trip to the game.  Seems like they had plenty of help cheering on our boys.  Rumour has it that Cameron Brace had around 40 family members there and our Attack have a number of other players that live in the GTA area.

The OHL Eastern Conference Brampton Battalion will be the Attack next home game opponent.  The Battalion make their only regular season visit to Owen Sound Saturday, January 7th.  Game time at the J.D. McArthur Arena is 7:30 p.m.

Previous to the Brampton home game, our Attack play in Niagara on Friday, January 6th.  The Ice Dogs will welcome home their 4 boys who represented Canada at the World Junior Championship in Alberta.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.  All road games can be heard live on Grey Motors Bear Radio with Fred Wallace on AM 560 CFOS and watched live on Rogers TV local channel 53.
