The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that they have officially named Greg Ireland as the teams new Head Coach. Ireland replaces former Head Coach Mark Reeds who accepted an Assistant Coaching Position with the Ottawa Senators earlier this summer. Ireland last served as the Head Coach of the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League where he compiled an 84-75-19 record. Prior to that, he was the Head Coach of the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League which saw him tally a 109-65-17 record.
“Greg brings a tremendous work ethic to our organization.”, stated Attack General Manager Dale DeGray in a packed press conference. “We feel that Greg brings professionalism, a winning pedigree and an incredible teaching philosophy to the game. We are extremely happy to have him as our new Head Coach. We do have a good core group of players returning and I feel that Greg has a tremendous group of young men to work and build with.”
“I am extremely proud to be joining the Attack organization.”, stated Ireland, who was accompanied by his sixteen year old son, Jake. “Some of the best fans in Junior Hockey are right here and I feel this is a great place for me and my family. I can’t wait to get started. Being hired on a day when two of your youngest players are named to a Canadian National Team is very special. Coming in, it is nice to know there is a solid core group of young players in place who have obviously been well coached.”
The Attack also used the Press Conference to announce to unveil a new Logo and Jersey Set after wearing the old scheme for the past eleven years. Newly signed 2011 First Round Draft Choice Zach Nastasiuk and forward Daniel Zweep were on hand to model the jerseys for the large crowd. The Attack will don a traditional White Jersey at home while sporting a Red jersey on the road. “A bunch of us saw the new design halfway through last season and we loved it.”, said Zweep. “It’s definitely a lot cleaner and more traditional. We can’t wait to throw them on and get back out on that ice.”
It was a huge day for the Attack as they also learned that Jarrod Maidens and Gemel Smith were chosen to represent Canada at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament which is set to begin next week. Defenseman Matt Petgrave is also in Alberta currently attending the Canadian National Junior Team Evaluation Camp.
