The Owen Sound Attack were in Plymouth on Friday night looking to erase the memory of a 3-1 loss to the Kitchener Rangers on Wednesday night. Slow starts have been something that has plagued the Attack in recent games. They were able to overcome the slow start in Oshawa, but not on Wednesday night against the Rangers.
A slow start would once again be something the Attack would have to deal with tonight as they found themselves down 2-0 just 10 minutes in. Gianluca Curcuruto scored just over one minute in the powerplay and Matt Mistele put the Whalers up 2-0 with just under ten minutes remaining.
Despite several great chances and a solid second period, the Attack would be unable to solve young Whalers goalie Nedeljkovic.
The Whalers would go up 3-0 in the third when Cody Payne tallied his 10th of the season and this was when the Attack turned the jets on. Kyle Hope single headedly brought the Attack back into the game when he buried his 8th and 9th goals of the season just over one minute apart. Not a minute later, Gemel Smith tallied his 16th of the season to tie the game at three!
That would be the way it would stay until late in the period when Dan Catenacci took a high sticking penalty with under one minute left. With just over 30 seconds left the Whalers thought they tied it, but it was ruled the puck has crossed the line after the net came off its moorings. The good feelings wouldn’t last long as Gianluca Curcuruto hammered home his 2nd of the game to give the Whalers a 4-3 lead and the win.
The final shots on goal were 29-26 in favor of the Attack.
Centennial Windows Three Stars of the Game were:
3) Tom Wilson 1A
2) Kyle Hope 2G
1) Gianluca Curcuruto 2G
The Attack is back in action on Saturday evening when they travel to Saginaw to take on the Whalers. Game time at the Dow Event Centre is 7:11pm.
