Spirit Stop Attack In Saginaw !

Spirit 4 - Attack 2

An empty net goal by Brandon Saad gave his Saginaw Spirit a 4-2 victory over our Attack in Saginaw Sunday afternoon.

Jordan Binnington made 27 saves in the Attack net.  Clint Windsor 31 for his Spirit.  Injured in Windsor Saturday night, forward Brendan Childerley wasn’t able to dress for his Attack.  Brendan’s type of ice time would be sorely missed.

Saginaw was first to get on the game sheet.  Josh Shalla upped his game goal scoring streak to 8, with his 9th goal during this streak and 33rd of the season.  A tap in at 16:38 of the first period.  The Attack outshot the Spirit 18-12, but trailed 1-0 after one.

Attack Captain Mike Halmo – who has a couple of point scoring streaks himself this season – came out of nowhere to blast his 37th of the season from the left wall while working a power play.  Time of the goal was 2:24 from Chris Bigras and Jordan Binnington.

Less than two minutes later, Gemel Smith screened Windsor and Chris Bigras’s point shot was his 3rd goal of the season with Mike Halmo assisting at 4:00.  Another PP marker.

Things went bad for our Attack after the Bigras goal.  A defender got caught on a “pinch” and Carlos Amestoy tied the affair at 9:16.

Jimmy Lodge flipped his 7th of the season by the glove hand of Jordan Binnington at 14:51 for a 3-2 Saginaw end of second period lead.

Saad’s goal into the Attack empty net at 19:22 was the affair.

Final score Saginaw 4 – Owen Sound 2 EN. The shots on net were 33-31 Owen Sound..  The Spirit were 0 for 5 on the PP.  Our  Attack 2 for 3.

The 3 Stars of the Game were:
1st Star – Clint Windsor
2nd Star – Mike Halmo
3rd Star – Carlos Amestoy

Overall, a great road weekend for our Attack.  Wins in Plymouth and Windsor and a close affair in Saginaw.  With the dust settled, our Attack 6 game winning streak was stopped, but their 28-22-3-4 record has them sitting in 4th spot in the OHL Western Confernce.

Captain Halmo’s goal and an assist sit him 5th in league point scoring  with 76 points and 4th in goals scored with 37.

Our Attack now play at home Wednesday, February 22nd when the Sarnia Sting will be our guests.   This could be a big game as far as the final Western Conference standings are concerned.   Game time at the J.D. McAthur Arena is 7:00 p.m.

Don’t miss it!
