![]() The Barrie Colts galloped into town Wednesday night and played a good “road” game defeating our Owen Sound Attack 3-0 after an empty net goal by their star import forward Vladimir Nikiforov. What a player Niki is. All 5’7” of him. This game was a bit of a “sleeper”, but Nikiforov has been worth the price of admission each time he has played in Owen Sound. Barrie goaltender Andrew Perugini withstood the barrage of 44 Attack shots, but other than a decent stop on Wayne Simmonds around the 11:00 mark of period two, things seemed pretty easy for him. Notes were made of saves by Attack netminder David Davenport who faced only 22 Barrie shots on net. His biggest save was on Nikiforov while shorthanded at 10:10 of the second. Niki was found with a pass all alone at the left side of the Attack net, but David was there sliding across to block Niki’s one-timer. Nikiforov opened the scoring with a powerplay goal at 9:56 of period one. A nice wrist shot from the right side. His 13th of the season. Barrie’s second goal came late in period two. Before the Attack could get things under control, George Lovatis had wrapped the Attack net counterclockwise and flipped in his 1st goal of the season. Attack Head Coach Mark Reeds called a time-out and then pulled his goaltender at 17:54 of the third. Good move with the face-off right side Barrie zone. Owen Sound won the draw back to the right defender. Unfortunately it looked like the Colts had been told to look for this and if they lost the face-off, to force the Attack defender to move the puck across the blueline to his partner. They forced that play and with the pass a bit off mark, Nikiforov was there to snap it up, take two strides to get his balance and wrist a shot the length of the ice for the 3-0 Barrie win. Final score Barrie 3 – Owen Sound 0 EN. The Kelsey’s Neighbourhood Bar and Grill Attacker of the Game was: David Kolomatis. The Harold Sutherland Construction Hardest Working player of the game was: Joshua Domingues.
